The best things to do in Oxfordshire this winter!

It’s easy to see why so many people choose to live in Oxfordshire, especially at this time of year.

From exciting events in Oxford city centre to wintry walks along the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, at Oxford Property Consulting we believe Oxfordshire has something for everyone.

In our latest blog, we have compiled our favourite things to do to help you plan the perfect day out in Oxfordshire this winter. Read on for inspiration!

Blenheim Palace Christmas lights

The Illuminated Christmas Lights Trail at Blenheim Palace is a sellout experience every year and a true highlight of the festive calendar in Oxfordshire.

Between November 18th and January 2nd, you can explore the picturesque gardens of the palace under more than one million twinkling lights. Friends and family of all ages can enjoy the spectacle as well as a whole array of food and drink stands and fairground rides.

Complete your visit to Blenheim Palace by exploring its Christmas market which has over 70 stalls. Advanced bookings are needed for the illuminated trail and the experience lasts around 90 minutes.

Shop till you drop at Bicester village

Bicester Village is just a stone’s throw away from Oxford, located on the outskirts of Bicester. The designer outlet attracts visitors from all over Oxfordshire who want to bag designer brands at low prices.

Of course, this is the perfect place to complete all your Christmas shopping but one of the best times of the year to go is January. The Christmas crowds have departed but the sales have not. In January they offer further discounts on their outlet prices helping shoppers snap up a real bargain.

With more than 120 designer boutiques and numerous places to stop for a drink or bite to eat, visiting Bicester Village is the perfect day out for anyone with a passion for fashion.

Attend a carol service

Oxfordshire is home to some truly spectacular churches and cathedrals. To help you get into the festive spirit attend one of the countless carol services taking place around the county.

Thanks in part to the university, classical music concerts and recitals take place year-round in various colleges around Oxford. During winter these are particularly popular, and places book up quickly.

We particularly recommend visiting Christchurch Cathedral in Oxford and Dorchester Abbey in Wallingford, both of which have a range of festive services in the run-up to Christmas.

See the latest exhibition

At this time of year there tend to be fewer tourists in Oxford making it the perfect time to visit one of the city’s amazing museums. There is a brilliant range on offer to keep you entertained all winter long.

The Ashmolean is a true standout and worth travelling from anywhere in the county to visit. The museum was founded in 1683 and is the oldest museum in the UK. Its world-famous collections range from Egyptian mummies to contemporary art.

In February the museum is launching a brand-new exhibition: Labyrinth – Knossos, Myth and Reality. The exhibit explores the legend of the ferocious minotaur that lived in the Palace of Knossos on the Island of Crete. For any Greek mythology fan this should not be missed!
